Beveling: The backbone of a strong weld.

Beveling the edge of a metal pipe or sheet seems like a small step in the metalworking process, but doing it right makes welding easier. Making an angled bevel along two connecting edges makes more room for the weld and allows for a tighter hold. By using long-lasting, fast-cutting 3M abrasives to grind your bevel, you can minimize abrasive changeover to save money over time.

Use the before-and-after slider for a beveling demonstration with 3M™ Cubitron™ II Depressed Center Grinding Wheel. The bonded wheel is powered by 3M Precision-Shaped Grain that cuts fast and lasts long through high-pressure grinding applications like beveling. In this demonstration, a 45º angle was cut into a carbon steel plate prior to welding.
