3M™ Promogran Prisma™ Matrix is comprised of a sterile, freeze dried composite of 44% oxidised regenerated cellulose (ORC), 55% collagen and 1% silver-ORC. Silver-ORC contains 25% w/w ionically bound silver, a well-known antimicrobial agent.
Collagen is essential for new tissue generation. This family of structural proteins attracts cells to the wound area and forms the underlying layer for cell adhesion that induces cell growth and helps build new proteins. In a wound dressing, the benefits of collagen may be further enhanced with the addition of the right balance of components, namely, oxidised regenerated cellulose (ORC) and often, silver for its antimicrobial properties. The dressings maintain a moist microenvironment that is conducive to granulation tissue formation, epithelialization, and rapid wound healing. The matrix is a freeze dried composite that consists of 55% collagen and 45% oxidised regenerated cellulose (ORC) and additionally contains 1% of silver-ORC. The silver, a well-known antimicrobial agent, provides antimicrobial protection against bacteria in wounds at risk of infection.1,2
